The Resole Project

The Resole Project is an initiative to unite the climbing industry and reduce waste generated by the sport. To participate, climbers can fill out the form below OR inquire at your local climbing gym to resole your shoes.

Climbing gyms and shoe brands interested in participating can request information through our contact form or email us at shop@articlesincommon.com

Get Started

Click the link to fill out the form and drop off your shoes at your local climbing gym. They must be a participant of The Resole Project.

You can also ship your shoes directly to one of our local Resole partners. We will email you a QR code to send in your shoes for repair.

The Impact

Key metrics like global production volume, short product lifespan, and non-recyclable materials, it's not surprising that climbing generates an enormous amount of waste.

An avid climber burns through 4 to 6 pairs of shoes per year and most don't opt to resole. Add that to a list of gyms and outfitters that don’t resole their rental fleet and we now have a huge amount of shoes ending up in landfills.

Since rubber doesn't retain its value like other commodities, commercial and industrial recycling facilities do not pay for post consumer rubber waste. This means shoe manufacturers would have to pay to recycle the rubber.

What you can do….

Opt to Resole your shoes.
Ask your local climbing gym if they participate in The Resole Project.
Encourage shoe brands to recycle their shoes.
