Monkeyflower founder, Mattea Pulido
Born of chronic busy-ness and a love for climbing, quirk, and creating, I started Monkey Flower Outdoor in 2023 as a fun side hobby. It has since grown into a more expansive way for me to explore my creativity, my love of functionality, especially in outdoor spaces, and support my future involvement in the makers space and the world of climbing.
Having studied sustainability in college, it is hard to move through the world without noticing the amount of usable material that goes to waste. I was particularly motivated by the current world of fast fashion to make my bags as slow as possible. All of my products are handmade by me with my trusty 90s sewing machine and upcycled from fabrics either inherited from my grandma’s collection of vintage, well-worn pants or shirts thrifted and from friends, items from my own closet that just need some new life and other more nontraditional materials like retired climbing rope, coffee bags, and whatever else I can get my hands on! Working with such varied materials means that each piece is a one of a kind!
Always inspired by climbing, the Monkey Flower mission is to embody the roots of where the sport began, be innovative, odd and inspired, and use things until they can’t be used anymore.
